Blue Island Media began life in 1998, initially as Blue Island Publishing Ltd – a satellite travel guides production company for renowned British book publisher DK (Dorling Kindersley). We produced the bestselling Eyewitness: Japan and numerous Top 10 guides, and later had our own imprint for the popular Londoner’s Diaries.
The business then evolved with the rapid rise of digital publishing in the early 2000s, with sister company Thameside Media Projects Ltd created in 2007 to take on a broad and exciting range of both printed and digital projects for Harper Collins, Blue Guides, the BBC and others. With TV tie-ins including Dragons’ Den there was a growing demand for our content packages involving editorial, web development, mapping and photography services. In 2011 we launched our opus Maproom project and a year later took over a neighbouring photography business called Slippery Fishes, continuing to trade with that name alongside Thameside Photography for another decade.
In 2024 we relocated from London to Exeter, at which point – no longer able to describe ourselves as “Thameside” – we decided to draw the nomenclature full circle with official company name change to Blue Island Media Ltd.
Our hundreds of clients over the years include public and private sector organisations, from small boutique businesses to education facilities and the NHS.
